Regional identity in doc martin

Regional identity is constructed in the doc martin clip you can see loads of different regional identity that is shown in the clip just in the way people act, drees and speak this can show a lot about a person and where they are from.

Camera

There is an establishing shot at the very start it shows a dated doctors surgery and shows the different ways in which people dress, looking at doc martin he stands out due to the way that the camera angle makes him look a lot taller than all the other people in the shot this may be done to show power like he is in charge also the camera is focus on the speaker all the way through the clip this makes the audience can tell who is speaking quickly. Also, an establishing shot is taken when the dot martin is walking out of the police station this shows the viewer where he is and what thee place looks like and makes it look like he does not fit in.

Editing

There is a lot of jump cuts that are used when doc martin goes to a different location in the village for example when he leaves with the stray dog from the surgery we see him grab the dog and then he is nearly to the police station where he is taking the dog when we see the next shot of him. This makes everything happen quicker and not get dragged out so there for keeps the users interested in the episode.

Sound

There is synchronised sound when the bigger man helping to mend the sink makes it spray water everywhere we hear the water going everywhere and doc martin when he is shouting to get a tool to fix it whilst he stops it going everywhere with a cushion. There is also synchronised sound when doc is walking down the street from the police station you can hear the wind and the sea in the background this adds to the image of where he is and makes him stand out more from the locals.

At the star, there is low light this makes the surgery look dated and makes it look like it was not very well looked after before, also it makes doc martin stand out. Also in the surgery, you can see that the two men have period cloths that are old and scruffy and is typical for the location of the place being Cornwall and they all have a southerner accent, doc martin stands out as he is from the city and does not have a southern accent and looks very smart. Also, the scenery is dated as all the houses are dated this makes you see that this extract is set in the past also the surgery backs this up as well as it is dated as well. Also, Burt is said to have a lot of knowledge from the lady with the boxes of vegetables she says he is good to know but when he was asked what bodmin means he couldn’t explain it this shows that h8e is not well educated but he is thought to be
